Tottenham ‘up their pursuit of Mourinho’ amid uncertainty over Man Utd target Pochettino’s future

TOTTENHAM have contacted Jose Mourinho about the possibility of succeeding Mauricio Pochettino, according to a report.
The Argentine has endured a rocky period of form at Spurs and could be on his way out of North London - with struggling Manchester United keen.
The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of Pochettino's work, dating back to his time at Southampton.
Ed Woodward considered him for the United post back in 2014, before eventually opting for the experience of Louis Van Gaal.
Then the 47-year-old's name cropped up again two years later - but Woodward went for the pedigree of Mourinho, before eventually replacing the ex Chelsea boss with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And French outlet claim Tottenham have made initial contact with Mourinho amid the speculation surrounding Pochettino - with the Portuguese having been out of work since being sacked by Woodward himself last December.
Tottenham have struggled of late, with reports.g about Pochettino's dwindling ability to motivate Spurs' stars.
The Lilywhites have slumped to a string of embarrassing results this season - being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Colchester, humiliated 7-2 by Bayern Munich - and then well beaten 3-0 by Brighton last time out.
The result on the South Coast prompted former midfielder Jermaine Jenas to say on BT Sport that Pochettino had reached "the end of the road" at Tottenham.
The shock results have even lead to chief Daniel Levy admitting that the club have players that the manager doesn't want.
And with the ex Southampton manager rumoured to be very interested in taking the Manchester United job - Spurs could turn to former London rival Mourinho.
According to Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas, the 56-year-old shunned advances from the French club because he already has his heart set on his next destination - rumoured to be Spurs.

But former White Hart Lane favourite Dimitar Berbatov has warned his old side not to sack Pochettino for Mourinho, questioning whether it would actually make the team any better.
Ex England boss Sam Allardyce thinks that Pochettino should shun Man United to fight for his Spurs future - claiming that he has a better squad in North London than he would at Old Trafford.
Tottenham currently sit ninth in the table, two points above the Red Devils - with both having hugely underwhelmed with poor performances so far this season - and facing an uphill battle for a place in the top four.
