DAVID DE GEA has hobbled out of Spain's Euro 2020 qualifier in Sweden after picking up a knock.

The Manchester United star, 28, had limped away from the field after clearing a back pass and winced as he appeared to pull a muscle.

He had to be replaced by Chelsea stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga and initial views look as though he has injured his groin.

It means De Gea could miss United's huge clash at Old Trafford on Sunday evening when they welcome European champions and fierce rivals Liverpool.

The timing could not be worse for boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, given he has been without a full-strength first team to pick from since August.

Full-backs Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are expected to push for first-team places after picking up injuries.

Daniel James also had a concussion scare in Wales' 1-1 draw against Croatia — an incident which saw Ryan Giggs criticised for making light of the United winger's blow to the head, as the Old Trafford legend claimed he was acting.

Sergio Romero has been a more-than-suitable substitute for De Gea in recent seasons though, with the Argentina international playing full games against Astana and Rochdale, when he helped win the tie in a penalty shootout.
