Cristiano Ronaldo scores 699th career goal as Portugal cruise while Andorra win FIRST qualifier at 57th attempt
CRISTIANO RONALDO is one away from 700 career goals after Portugal cruised past Luxembourg 3-0.
The 34-year-old’s sublime 65th-minute lob made it 699 goals in 973 appearances for club and country.
Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva put the Portuguese ahead in the first half, before Ronaldo scored with Goncalo Guedes netting the third in the 89th minute.
The win saw them close the gap on Group B leaders Ukraine — who beat Lithuania 2-0 — to five points, with a game in hand, ahead of Monday’s showdown.
And in equally historic fashion, Portugal's neighbours Andorra recorded their first ever victory in a European Championship qualifying game.
Before tonight, the minnows had played 56 qualifiers and lost all 56.
But Marc Vales' 63rd minute strike saw them record a historic 1-0 win against visitors Moldova in the Group H clash.
