Newcastle hero Matty Longstaff who scored winner vs Man Utd earns just £850 a week
NEWCASTLE'S newest hero Matty Longstaff earns just £850 a week at St James' Park.
The Toon teenager, 19, scored the winner on his Premier League debut against Manchester United last weekend.
Longstaff is still on the first professional deal he signed in the summer of 2018, which expires at the end of this season.
Newcastle are keen to tie the midfielder down to a new contract as soon as possible, especially as he would be free to talk to foreign clubs from January.
Earlier this summer, the 19-year-old shone during his first pre-season with the first team.
He fulfilled a “dream” by playing with brother Sean - tipped with a £50million move to Man Utd - in the senior side during Newcastle’s Premier League Asia Trophy win over West Ham this summer.
Longstaff then started a pre-season friendly defeat at Preston, when he was replaced at half-time by his older sibling.
And since then he has been blooded into Bruce's Newcastle side - in what has been a real baptism of fire.
But he instantly made headlines last Sunday with his incredible display against Man Utd in front of a raucous St James' Park.
The younger Longstaff brother rifled home a 71st-minute thunderbolt to give Bruce's side a crucial three points - and pile the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
With both Longstaffs now seemingly vital to the Toon's hopes this season, club bosses are eager to ensure they stay in the North-East for years to come.
That starts with offering Matty a new deal before other clubs make their move.
