Gary Neville begs Man Utd NOT to axe Solskjaer as he ‘inherited a shambles with a disastrous culture’
GARY NEVILLE has begged Manchester United NOT to axe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, admitting he "inherited a shambles with a disastrous culture".
The Red Devils and England legend - who has called on the club to axe chief executive Ed Woodward's involvement in the football side of the business - believes Solskjaer needs time to rebuild the fallen giant.
He posted on Twitter today: "I’ve been very supportive of all MU managers.
"He inherited a shambles with a disastrous culture.
"He’s had to rip it up and is suffering for that now.
"His results last season with Jose’s squad were better on a pro rata basis. He needs some time like the others had!"
But his posts produced some angry responses from fed-up United fans who want Solskjaer out.
One even accused the Norwegian of drip-feeding his old team-mate information to keep him in the job.
Other felt former Cardiff boss Solskjaer is totally out of his depth in the role.
United are now just two points off the drop zone after a disastrous start to the season, compounded by the sloppy 1-0 defeat at Newcastle yesterday.
FAN BACKLASH
One United fan, responding to Neville on Twitter, said: "What has he done in his managerial career to warrant time though?
"The others before him were given time because they had proven records.
"Yes Ole is a legend for what he did as a player, but if we’re going to be sentimental then a relegation battle is on our hands."
While fan Lee Paterson backed Nev, posting: "Let’s just sack him then and then when they next guy comes in with a squad like this, just sack him too and then you’ll moan about the results again.
"Getting rid will not help, he needs a chance to rebuild, nobody else could rebuild quicker."
While Olufemi Adebayo came straight to the point, posting: "Sometimes it's ok to admit a recruitment error and rectify it b4 too much damage is done."
Neville had previously posted a tweet clearly directed at Ed Woodward and the United board.
It read: "What we are witnessing is down to the short term decisions made.
"Hopefully this has stopped now."
Having been accused of attacking Jose Mourinho during his reign, Neville was quick to bite back.
He posted: "I defender Mourinho I think you will find...Don't rewrite history.
"He was on the brink of being sacked pre-Newcastle and I said clearly he wasn't supported in the summer transfer market, the board had withdrawn on him."
But United seem to be paying the price for allowing Romelu Lukuka and Alexis Sanchez to leave and not replacing them in the summer.
While fans and pundits have questioned his tactics, man-management and motivational skills as United sink into the mire under a rookie boss.
