Gary Neville claims Man Utd would be ‘better off with Fellaini up front’ after going backwards under Solskjaer

GARRY NEVILLE slammed Manchester United’s attacking line, insisting his old club would be “better off with Fellaini up front”.

The United boss’ decision to sell Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan without bringing in a replacement has since proved a disastrous one.

And with Marcus Rashford looking on exhausted legs, Anthony Martial injured and Mason Greenwood too inexperienced - Neville believes Solskjaer was best of keeping the misfit Inter pair.

He told Sky Sports: “The quality's not right and they have taken a step backwards.

“They'd be better off with Fellaini up front with Lukaku, Sanchez up front, there's no doubt.

“They now need to fix a style and fix a way of recruiting. It is going to be painful and the board are going to need to hold their nerve.

“They've cocked it up over many years. They're responsible for this poor recruitment. They've gone for completely different styles of managers.

“They've now gone with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a completely different style.

“If you change direction every two years and invest £250million along the way with each manager, you're going to have problems.”

Solskjaer revealed he will swoop for a striker in January, after conceding he is too short of options in attack.

And club legend Neville believes his former team-mate deserves £250m to spend in the transfer market - like managers before him.

He added: “Manchester United are now getting the pain that they deserve for poor decisions at board level.

“Solskjaer needs to make sure that the clean-up job that he's doing, which needs to be done for the mess that's gone before him.

“He needs to make sure that he gets the opportunity to spend that £250m that the others have had to spend so that he can have an opportunity.”
