Man Utd player ratings: Tuanzebe only positive while Fred nowhere near £50million man during another disastrous afternoon for United at Newcastle
MANCHESTER UNITED crashed to another disaster defeat at Newcastle as things continue to get worse for the crisis hit club.
A dull first-half saw Harry Maguire miss a sitter of a header from close range but neither side looked particularly dangerous.
And the Red Devils were no better after the break as Matty Longstaff scored on his Premier League debut to give Steve Bruce his first win over United as manager as the pressure continues to grow on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And here's what William Pugh thought of United's individual performances in the 1-0 defeat in the North East.
DAVID DE GEA - 5
Hardly had anything to do and tough to blame him for Longstaff's goal as it was a solid strike low to his right. Came up for corner at the end a la Schmeichel.
DIOGO DALOT - 5 (subbed off, 60 mins)
Tried to be an outlet going forward but constantly beaten by Saint-Maximin down his side when defending.
AXEL TUANZEBE - 8
Fantastic performance from the 21-year-old. Looked every bit the polished professional where the majority of his teammates did not. Also adapted well to keep Andy Carroll quiet when the big Geordie came on.
HARRY MAGUIRE - 5
Excellent block from Almiron's shot in the first-half but missed an absolute sitter of a header before half-time. Could have closed down Longstaff quicker for his goal.
ASHLEY YOUNG - 5 (subbed off, 86 mins)
Tried his best. Should have shot when he broke into the box in the second-half but tried to cut it back and it was blocked. Few probing runs into Newcastle's half as United chased the game.
SCOTT MCTOMINAY - 4
Lucky to escape a second-yellow card when called up for a handball. Booked in first-half for dangerous tackle on Sean Longstaff which could have easily been a red. VAR checked and referee's initial decision stood though. Uninspiring and angry apart from that.
FRED - 4
Booked early on for a needless foul. Still not worth the £50million United paid for him. Don't think he ever will be.
ANDREAS PEREIRA - 5
Ok. Fizzed a decent ball across for James in the second-half which just evaded the Welshman. Sloppy defending saw him play Willems onside in lead up to Newcastle's goal.
JUAN MATA - 4 (subbed off, 65 mins)
Kept dropping back into the midfield two rather than sticking in the number 10 spot allowing Newcastle to break out from the back. Hauled off on 65 minutes.
DANIEL JAMES - 6
Industrious as always, final ball somewhat lacking. Soft shout for a penalty early in the second-half was then denied an assist by Fabian Schar's toenail.
MARCUS RASHFORD - 5
Quiet first-half. Solskjaer must have had a strong word at half-time as he came out with much more energy after the break. Still relatively ineffective but not helped by Mata's poor performance and positioning.

Virtually invisible for the 25 minutes he was on.
MARCOS ROJO - 5 (on for Dalot)
Newcastle scored soon after he came on but hard to blame him.

Not enough time to make an impact.
