Apprentice star Lord Sugar begs ex-Arsenal boss Wenger to take charge at Spurs after club’s horror 3-0 defeat at Brighton

FORMER TOTTENHAM chairman Alan Sugar has sent a public plea for ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to take over from Mauricio Pochettino.

Argentine Poch is feeling the pressure after a week in which his side were hammed 7-2 at home by Bayern Munich before a three-goal drubbing at Brighton.

Wenger meanwhile has been out of the game for just over a year since his long career at Arsenal came to an end in 2018 after 22 years.

And Apprentice star Sugar tweeted “Come to Spurs” in response to a tweet about the Frenchman, who revealed he is close to taking a new job with FIFA.

Wenger has been offered a technical role at the football organisation but the 69-year-old said there is still a fire burning inside him to get back to team management.

Asked about the FIFA role on beIN Sports, he said: "I just want to share what I’ve learned and give it back to the game in a different way.

"I am not sure I will stop coaching as well. The devil is still in there but I have to see, do I like it? Can I be efficient?

"This is about the development of coaching efficiency, development of after the career potential for players to educate them and to develop potential jobs for them after they have stopped playing."

Spurs meanwhile are rooted in seventh on 11 points after Neal Maupay's third-minute tap-in was followed by a brace from teenager Aaron Connolly.

And speaking immediately after the final whistle, ex-Chelsea star Cole gave his verdict on Pochettino's future in north London.

He told BT Sport: "The club is in disarray. Tottenham were dreadful with no desire, no heart, nothing. There was no press.

"Pochettino looked uninterested on the bench, I think we're getting to the point where it's the end of the road for this team and this manager.

"As a group, they have fallen apart and something is going to have to change."
