POTTER LUCK?

Stoke ready to bring back Tony Pulis for THIRD spell in charge if they sack Nathan Jones

STOKE are ready to offer Tony Pulis a return to the Potteries if they sack under-fire Nathan Jones.

Former Luton boss Jones has suffered a nightmare since moving to the Bet365 in January.

He has picked up just four wins from 33 games in charge.

The desperate start to the Championship season means Jones is on thin ice.

His side have picked up just two points from nine games and are rooted to the bottom of the table.

And if the board does pull the plug they are ready to turn again to Pulis and ask the Welshman if he wants a THIRD spell in charge.

Pulis’ first three-year period at the helm ended in 2005 when he was sacked.

But he returned a year later after Peter Coates regained control of the club.

Under Pulis, Stoke were promoted to the Prem in 2008, staying in the top flight for five full seasons under him before he was replaced by Mark Hughes in 2013.

The 61-year-old, who moved on to spells at Crystal Palace, West Brom and Middlesbrough, has been out of the game since his Boro contract was not renewed in the summer.

Stoke finished ninth for three years in a row under Hughes and then 13th in 2016/17.

But he - and replacement Paul Lambert - could not keep the Potters up the following year.

Gary Rowett came in for the beginning of last season but was gone by January and Stoke turned to Jones, who did brilliantly at Luton.

But he is now very much feeling the pressure with the terrible run of form and no sign of a turnaround.
