Tottenham player ratings: Tanguy Ndombele steals the show as Serge Aurier caps off dismal display with red card against Southampton

HUGO LLORIS was forced to make up for his embarrassing blunder that allowed Danny Ings to equalise, by pulling off a string of fine second half saves.

Tanguy Ndombele, who had his best game in a Spurs jersey since signing in the summer, opened the scoring but a shocking attempt to Cryuff turn his way out of trouble by Lloris gifted the Saints a leveller.

Striker Harry Kane saved his skipper’s blushes after firing in what turned out to be the winner when he latched on to the ball in the box and smashed home.

Hugo Lloris - 6

Made a calamitous mistakes attempting a Cryuff turn having received a back pass from Alderweireld, and after missing the ball completely Danny Ings tapped home for 1-0.

Pulled off two marvelous saves to prevent Ward-Prowse and Yoshida equalsing.

Danny Rose - 6

Struggled to close the distance down to prevent crosses coming in but bombed down Spurs’ left side well to create chances of his own.

Toby Alderweireld - 7

Tasked with marking Ings the Belgain was rarely beaten in one on one battles in the air or fighting for the ball. Clipped some good passes over the Saints backline early on.

Jan Vertonghen - 7

Disciplined display by the Belgium international. Made some important interceptions while deployed as the deeper centre-back.

Serge Aurier - 2

Awful day for the right-back, red carded four minutes after going in the book. Two fouls to prevent Boufal from advancing on the left wing saw Aurier sent off.

Harry Winks - 6

Played the deep lying role other side of Sissoko and Ndombele and looked to break play up regularly. Not involved on the ball as much after Spurs went down to ten.



 Moussa Sissoko - 7

Started bright on the ball driving with possession but lacked the ability to find a killer pass despite pushing Spurs up. Covered well at right-back after Aurier was sent off.

Tanguy Ndombele - 8

Excellent start to the game, confident driving with the ball and pulled off some smart flicks to keep the pace of the attack. Took his goal well reacting fast to get a shot off with limited space.

Christian Eriksen - 4

Didn’t set the game alight like he can, didn’t look urgent to get on the ball and make a difference and only looked effective from set plays.

Son Heung-min - 5

Found himself drifting out to the left throughout the first half but was shy of getting behind the Saints backline and threatening with his pace and finishing ability.

Harry Kane - 7

Took Spurs’ winner expertly smashing the ball past Gunn with quick reactions. Put himself between the Saints centre-half offering to hold up play well.

Erik Lamela - 6

Showed energy to help Spurs make up for their one man disadvantage. Was particularly comfortable weaving in and out from the left wing.

Eric Dier - 6

Brought on to provide help for Winks in defensive midfield the England international pressed Southamoton on the ball in a period where his team-mates were on tired legs.

Victor Wanyama - 5

Replaced Winks at the death but wasn’t given any time to make a difference.
