Bayern Munich stars threaten to boycott German team if Neuer is axed for Ter Stegen as players take in Oktoberfest

BAYERN MUNICH president Uli Hoeness has remarkably backtracked on his threat to pull his club's players out of the German national team — if Manuel Neuer is replaced by Barclona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen has been hailed by pundits and fans for his performances this season — and many feel that he deserves his shot between the sticks with Die Mannschaft.

Ter Stegen was brilliant in Barca's recent Champions League group stage draw at Borussia Dortmund, reminding German fans that he is a special talent like World Cup winner Neuer.

Hoeness told : "Before that takes place, we won't be sending any more national players.

"We will never accept that there will be a change here.

"He’ll already hear what we've said, his ears will ring."

Joachim Low has replied with an equally prickly reply to the head of the serial Bundesliga winners.

The 2014 World Cup winning coach said: "I will not let that influence me.

"That makes me look completely relaxed into the future."

Bayern later released a statement backtracking on Hoeness' comments.

The club said: "Immediately after our Champions League game against Belgrade Mr. Hoeness made statements concerning the discussions over the No1 on the national team that he would not, in hindsight, make today.

"The matter has long since been settled for him, and there are no further statements of his concerning it."

Meanwhile the Bayern Munich squad have been enjoying their annual get together for Oktoberfest, the world famous beer-swigging festival in southern Germany.

Neuer was pictured sporting his lederhosen, along with new boy Philippe Coutinho and Bayern's star-studded squad.
