Tyson Fury will ‘move heaven and earth’ for Deontay Wilder rematch next year after one more fight in the US
TYSON FURY will move “heaven and earth” in order to secure a crack at redemption and rematch Deontay Wilder.
Fury, 30, cruised past little-known Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas on Saturday night in his first fight back since drawing to The Bronze Bomber via contentious split-decision in December.
The Gyspy King completed a first of a targeted three bouts before the year is out as his new US promoter Bob Arum bids to build the Brit’s profile Stateside before the Wilder rematch.
After Fury secured his first KO in five years, UK promoter Frank Warren told the 30-year-old will box a top five ranked opponent before pushing for a second crack at the WBC title.
Warren said: “He will fight in either late September or early October, probably in New York, hopefully Madison Square Garden again against a top five ranked opponent.
“Then after that we will be moving heaven and earth to make the fight with Deontay Wilder.
“Both the boxers want to make the fight, the promotion camps want to do it, so I am hoping we can get it over the line.”
Fury had spent two and a half years sidelined battling depression, drugs and alcohol after losing his unified titles out of the ring in 2016.
But after finding inspiration to box again through 26-year-old trainer Ben Davison the pair hatched a comeback plan and Fury went onto beat Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta in 2018.
After just two comeback fights the Manchester hero jumped into a WBC title fight against Wilder, and despite being floored twice, the Brit largely outboxed the champion – but did not get the decision.
With a rematch set for next year Fury is in no doubt he is back to match sharpness and claimed his style is the “kryptonite” to KO king Wilder, 33.
Fury said: “Deontay Wilder is coming. This fight’s going to happen.
“There was three horses in the heavyweight division and then there was two. And I already beat him once and I’ll beat him again and again and again.
“He ain’t going to fight 50% Tyson Fury. He’ll get a back active, back sharp Tyson Fury.
“It’s heavyweight boxing and anything can happen at any given moment, but the way I box and my style is kryptonite for anybody.”
