A FURE THING

Tyson Fury will demolish Deontay Wilder within five rounds now he’s fit, claims Bob Arum

TYSON FURY will deal with Deontay Wilder in five rounds, claims US promoter Bob Arum.

Fury, 30, scored his first KO in five years as he dominated an undermatched Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas completing the first bout in his lucrative £80million Top Rank deal.

It was the first of three targeted warm up fights for Fury this year before he prepares to rematch Wilder, 33, in 2020 – having drawn with the WBC king in December.

Fury’s US promoter Arum claimed the rematch is not yet signed, though he promises it will land next year and tipped his newest marquee signing to demolish Wilder before the second half of the fight.

Arum, 87, said: “There is no heavyweight in the world that can beat him. Now that he is in shape, Deontay Wilder is not going five rounds with him.

“We will have another fight, then we will fight Wilder. Nothing is signed. They both want to fight. There are two networks and it’s 50/50.

“It’s easy to do. You’ve got my word it’s going to happen. First quarter of next year. Right here [in Las Vegas].

“Fury took off 144-pounds to prepare for Wilder the first time around. I don’t care who you are, that’s not good.”

Arum watched in awe as Fury battered Schwarz inside the MGM Grand Arena with the Gypsy King peppering his opponent with uppercuts in the southpaw stance.

After eating a succession of uppercuts Schwarz was backed into the ropes and a reverse one-two combination finishing with a right hand had the 25-year-old on his knees.

Smelling blood, and the chance to impress his new fans, Fury piled on the pressure backing up his man into a corner and letting the hooks go.

After making no attempt to throw a punch back – almost waiting for the fight to be halted – referee Kenny Bayless put Schwarz out of his misery.

Veteran boxing chief Arum claimed not since heavyweight icon Ali has there been a fighter with more “charisma” than the Gypsy King.

Arum said: “That was amazing. Tyson Fury is a force of nature.

“This was one of the great shows I’ve ever seen and not just because of the boxing. He’s an entertainer. He is truly unique.”

“Now that he’s in shape, he can knock out every heavyweight in the world. I haven’t seen a fighter with that much charisma since Muhammad Ali.”
