The Mexican-American was afforded the life-changing opportunity after Brooklyn mouthpiece Jarrell Miller failed a trio of drug tests.

Ruiz has been beaten once in 33 fights, a close decision loss in 2016 for the WBO belt against Joseph Parker - a man AJ would go on to defeat two years later.

The fight has been met with scepticism due to Ruiz’s podgy frame - though the 29-year-old’s hand speed cannot be denied.

Footage of his training sessions reveal the lightning quick speed that has helped Ruiz claim 21 KO’s.

"I'm an exciting fighter. People look at me and say: 'he's slow, he will get tired'. But I'm a combination fighter.
