Khan and Brook have been on a collision course to secure a fight for over six years and now Matchroom boss Hearn says he believes it's only a matter of time.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “I believe the fight will happen, and I think it will be done before the end of the year.

"I'd like to get it done before Kell's fight with Zerafa and we can get them both in the ring. I believe it is Amir Khan's birthday, December 8 as well.

"If we are going to get it done for February or March, we must get it done before the end of the year."

Hearn believes the clash between the two welterweight rivals is the biggest fight to happen in the UK outside the Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder fight.

He added: "It is the biggest fight out there for British boxing, outside Joshua against Wilder, and it's a fight everyone's wanted for years and years and years.

"It's a brilliant fight and, like I said, it's the first time both guys have sort of accepted 'this is the next fight for me.'"

Recently Khan came forward saying the only way the fight happens is if both he and Brook are restricted to a 10lbs limit on how much they can re-hydrate bringing in a second day weight in on the day of the fight.

The Bolton boxer said: “Second day weigh-in. Brook fought under IBF 10lb rule for few fights.

“I want the Brook fight at 147lbs with a 10lb rehydration limit. All the top fights do it. Give the fans the fight they want.

Brook hit back, saying: "The fight fans know the only clause you’re really interested in is the get out clause!"

Speaking on the issues, Hearn went on to say: "We are still talking, the weight issues, the hydration issues, where's it going to be, when's it going to be.

"I think there's a desire from both sides to make this happen next. We are planning for early March, end of February as well, and I think we will go indoors.

"I think we'll go to Manchester or The O2 - potentially - and it's a massive fight.

"There's still some work to be done, but we are all working together to make it happen and I don't think there's ever been an occasion where that's been the case.

"Everyone is quite positive."
