The former light-welterweight world champion said: “Me and Eddie have always talked, even when we were not working together.

“If I needed tickets to a fight, he would look after me and my team.

“They were free tickets too and it would be funny because some days I would be talking a lot of s*** about him and then a week later I would get on the phone to Eddie for a couple of tickets.

“He must have thought ‘you cheeky b******!’”

Khan, now back at welterweight, signed a three-fight deal with Hearn in January.

The 31-year-old added: “On a serious note, this is the final chapter of my career and Eddie has brought the love of boxing back for me.

“Being with a great promoter takes a lot of pressure off me.

“I remember days when I would have to go through long lists of potential opponents but now I have Eddie for half of that battle.

“He puts names to me, I put them to him and we decide on one together.”

Khan spent a long time fighting in America and then did not box for two years after being hammered by Canelo Alvarez at middleweight in 2016.

But he beat Phil Lo Greco in 39 seconds in April and takes on Colombian Samuel Vargas, 29, in Birmingham tomorrow.

Now, with Hearn in his corner and British boxing enjoying a boom, Khan believes a stadium sell-out with old enemy Brook can be made.

Sheffield star Brook and Khan have slated each other for years but never got round to trading punches.

Khan said: “When you are with a promoter in America you are so far away but with Eddie it’s only a phone call or a two-hour drive.

“I also wanted to fight in the UK. It’s lovely to fight in the US but my loyalty lies in the UK and I came back here to sign with the biggest promotional company.

“They can get me on Sky TV and he has all the contacts. He also has Kell Brook and can make that fight.

“There is a lot we both have, so that is why I think it works so well.”

Brook, 32, was also destroyed when he moved up to middleweight two years ago, by Gennady Golovkin.

He then lost his IBF welterweight crown to Errol Spence Jr last year.
