McGregor is due in court on June 14 to answer three charges of misdemeanour assault and one count of felony criminal mischief.

And Khan posted a message of support on Instagram alongside a video of himself with the 29-year-old.

He wrote: "Lovely to see the champ in Belfast. All the best with the court case in US."

Before Khan's 2016 fight against Canelo Alvarez, McGregor hailed the plucky puncher's decision to take on a far heavier man.

He tweeted: "Respect to Khan. Most established fighters these days look down the divisions for a fight. Very few are looking up."

Khan is set for a winter war with Kell Brook - if the Sheffield star can handle American Jarrett Hurd in a final tune-up in July.

Brook is now campaigning at the super-welterweight limit of 154lbs, while Khan has insisted than any fight between them must be in the welterweight division of 147lbs.

The Bolton bruiser, 31, enjoyed a 39-second return to the UK in April, destroying Canadian loudmouth Phil Lo Greco, after five years fighting in America or laid low with injury.

And Brook – who has taken regular verbal jabs at Khan’s chaotic and very public private life – made short work of Sergey Rabchenko in March.
