SPOTY: BBC Sports Personality of the Year blasted by Piers Morgan after shocking Anthony Joshua snub

Heavyweight king AJ was an odds-on favourite but did not even crack the top three with Mo Farah winning, Jonathan Rea second and Jonnie Peacock third

Northern Ireland's World Superbikes champion Jonathan Rea was a shock second, with gold-winning paralympian Jonnie Peacock third.

And the results saw Morgan label the show a shambles as viewers took to social media to voice their outrage.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, tweeted: "Absolute shambles at the end of  . Congrats anyway to  on winning (assuming he ever got his well-deserved award) but how on earth did  &  not make the Top3? The British public’s glittering record of voting insanity continues..."

Joshua, 28, was a 1-7 shot to triumph last night after beating Wladimir Klitschko and Carlos Takam in two defences of his world titles.

But Olympic hero Farah, 34, was named the victor - leading some to label the show a "joke" and "farce".

The runners' video link was cut off before he had said a word in a high-profile gaffe, with US Olympic great Michael Johnson stepping in.

The award was hit with fix claims when Farah was spotted with the award on his chair BEFORE the winner was announced.

Twitter users were sent into a frenzy after spotting the trophy next to him, with voting not even open at the time.
