Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather made £446m but was 300,000 viewers short of pay-per-view world record
FLOYD MAYWEATHER vs Conor McGregor’s pay-per-view numbers have finally been released by ShowTime – with the fight coming up short of the world record.
It has been revealed by the TV station – four months after the bout – that the “billion dollar fight” generated 4.3 million PPV buys and more than £446million total revenue.
That’s an impressive amount but still is 300,000 short of the world record also set by Mayweather in his long awaited welterweight unification fight with Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao in 2015 that sold 4.6 million.
It was incorrectly claimed by Dana White back in October that Mayweather vs McGregor had actually broken the world record with a total of 6.7 million PPV global buys.
White said on The Unnamed Podvideocast with Jason Gay: “We broke the (pay-per-view buy) record. The thing ended up doing 6.7 million pay-per-view buys globally.”
Mayweather came back from a two year retirement to take on the UFC lightweight champion McGregor beating the Irishman with a 10th round stoppage taking his unbeaten record to 50-0 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in August.
