The blockbuster clash has been on the table for a while but was only be confirmed once backers came up with £31m.

Last week Pacquiao said he was no longer going after a fight with Jeff Horn after the Aussie came out bottom in a poll of fighters the fans wanted Pacquiao to fight, with just 7% of the votes.

The man who was voted top was Khan – with 48% of the 44,815 votes.

The 30-year-old Khan, who won silver as a lightweight at the Athens Olympics, has not fought since last May when he moved up two weight classes to fight middleweight Canelo Alvarez.

Pacquiao and Khan have sparred many rounds together when they shared the same trainer in Freddie Roach at The Wild Card gym in Los Angles.

They are both known for their lightning quick hands so this will be a fantastic match up of speed vs speed.

Pacquiao, 38, previously confirmed on Twitter that he was “in negotiations” to face Khan despite American promoter Bob Arum’s efforts to arrange a fight with Horn in April.

But Arum had also said: “Manny is trying to get a fight done in the United Arab Emirates, and the people there favour him fighting Amir Khan”.
