Concerned Groves tweeted a message of support on Saturday morning while asserting his rival's family needed their privacy.

The Kazakh-born fighter ended the fight with a badly swollen left eye that triggered memories of a beaten Nick Blackwell after his bout with Chris Eubank Jr.

Blackwell spent a week in an induced coma but managed to make a full recovery despite being forced to retire from boxing as a result of his injuries.

Gutknecht is being treated at the same hospital as the Brit and is understood to be under close observation in a specialist unit.

Groves had to work hard for a deserved points victory as he closed in on a fourth world title shot.

Making the second defence of his WBA international belt, the super-middleweight claimed a unanimous decision with scorecards of 119-110, 119-109 and 119-109 to make it four wins from four in 2016.

After the heartache of losing to WBC champ Badou Jack last year, Groves has not looked back since switching to trainer Shane McGuigan.

But his joy will be tempered while he waits for news on his opponent's health.
