Nigel Benn: Amir Khan will storm back from hand surgery and take Kell Brook in showdown

Former two-weight world champion went under knife himself and said Brit star's psyche will not be damaged

NIGEL BENN has backed Amir Khan to storm back from hand surgery and take Kell Brook in a showdown the world wants to see.

The Dark Destroyer went under the knife on his right hand two weeks after his 1994 WBC world super-middleweight title win over Henry Wharton.

And former WBO middleweight champion Benn insists Khan will not be plagued by fears over a loss of speed or power.

Benn, who was at Tidworth Garrison, Wiltshire, to be announced as ambassador for both The Fusiliers and The Fusilier boxing team, said: "Khan's hand has been playing up all his career and he's been doing well with it.

"Now he's hand surgery I don't think it is going to affect him.

"He put on a good show with Saul Alvarez and the people want Khan back.

"What I can promise is that the power doesn't leave you.

"And we're fighters, we don't have that mentality where we worry about an injury, we don't have that attitude.

"Now, after this, there's an opportunity for Kell Brook and Amir Khan to get it on and that would be a great fight, everyone wants to see it.

"They have both got good qualities. Floyd Mayweather never fought Khan because he's got great hand speed, it's phenomenal.

"Kell's got the power. If Khan can keep out the way he could win, but if he runs into a Kell Brook right hand he could be in trouble.

"And he will get caught because you cant run away for 12 rounds. It's 50-50 to me."

Benn, who spent more than four years in the Royal Fusiliers, trained with soldiers at the barracks yesterday.

And of his time in the Forces, the Brit boxing legend said: "The Army taught me to be second to no one. That's always stood with me.

"I owe so much to the Fusiliers. I'm honoured and privileged for my time serving. I'm blessed."
