The Bolton star was brutally KO'd in the sixth round by Saul Alvarez when he jumped up two divisions to challenge for the WBC world middleweight title in May.

He has not boxed in the UK since a points win over Julio Diaz in Sheffield in April 2013 but wants to resume his career on home soil.

Khan, who will drop back down to welterweight, told SunSport: “I want to fight again in January, then in May and again before the end of 2017.

“I’m going to start training and make sure my hand is fully recovered. I don’t want to rush into a fight at the end of this year.

“I want my next fight to be in Britain. I know it’s going to have to be a tune-up having lost the Canelo fight and also having had the hand surgery.

“But that’s why I then want to fight again in May — it has to be a big fight in May.”

Khan remains the No1 challenger to WBC welterweight champ Danny Garcia and is confident of avenging the defeat he suffered to the American in 2012.

The Brit added: “I want the Garcia fight. I’m the mandatory challenger for Garcia’s WBC title and I would like to take that fight.

“I’ll get the tune-up out of the way and then I want to look for the big names. As I say, I’m Garcia’s mandatory so maybe that could happen in May.

“I really believe that fight could be a big PPV in America because of the history.”
