Kell Brook: Facing Gennady Golovkin will be walk in the park… after cheating death in machete attack

KELL BROOK is not fazed by the prospect of tackling Gennady Golovkin — because he has already faced far worse.

Brook, 30, feared for his life during an unprovoked machete attack while on holiday in Tenerife in September 2014.

The IBF world welterweight champ was left in critical condition and underwent surgery after being stabbed three times in the leg and once in the arm.

So stepping up two divisions to challenge the fearsome Golovkin, 34, for his IBF, WBA Super and WBC middleweight titles at London’s O2 Arena next month will be a walk in the park by comparison.

Brook said: “Having stared death in the face, this is nothing to me. It’s a doddle and that’s why you’re going to see what you’re going to see on September 10.

Brook and Golovkin will go toe-to-toe in London next month

“This is the biggest fight that could have been made — and nobody expected it. I’m jumping up two weight divisions to fight the most feared man on the planet.

“I want to win world titles at different weights. I’m not happy with just winning one world title — I want to go out there and win them all.

“Nobody seems to want to fight Golovkin, like nobody wants to fight me, and it’s the best fighting the best.

“I’m going to need absolutely everything to come together on the night. It’s a big ask, but I know I can beat him.

Brook is IBF world welterweight champ but will fight Golovkin at middleweight

“He’s beating middleweights with ease, but you’re going to see something very, very special

“I’m not interested in his power and what he’s going to be doing. He should be interested in what I’m doing.

“A lot of fighters go in there and they’ve already lost.

“I’m in with a killer, a heavy-handed middleweight, but once that bell rings there’s something in me and I’ll make sure I do everything first.”
