Astonishing moment Brit Jamie Cooke wins modern pentathlon gold after rival celebrates too early

Frenchman Valentin Prades was so convinced that he had triumphed in the gruelling event that he raised his arms in delight

The 27-year-old became the first British world champion in the event for 25 years when he pipped a celebratory-Prades right on the line.

Prades was so certain he had won the race with 50 metres to go that he raised his arm in triumph over his achievements.

Little did he know he would be left red-faced when Cooke produced a remarkable sprint finish to come from nowhere and steal the glory.

It was an amazing burst of energy from a gruelling race that consists of a 200m swim, 35 fencing bouts, show jumping, laser shooting and four 800m runs.

The clock showed that Cooke won gold by an extraordinary 0.03 seconds.
