The world champion cyclist and track runner woke up to find her motor had disappeared so informed police straight away.

Cox wrote on Twitter: "Last night 2 vile guys broke into my house while I was asleep, stole my keys, and my car from Prestwich. It's a black Jaguar E pace."

Fortunately, the 28-year-old had a tracker fitted on the car and it was later discovered dumped in another part of the city.

But it is the second time Cox has fallen victim to criminals - after a pair of her world championship medals were taken in 2017.

She told the MEN: "I got the car back.

"It was recovered in Radcliffe. It has a tracker on it and the police found it.

"The two people who took it were caught on CCTV. It was probably a good thing I was asleep.

"I got my medals back as well - they were handed in anonymously at a police station.

The Brit suffered a stroke at the age of 23 and then went on to be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
