England rugby ratings: Tuilagi sparkles with two tries to provide some light in an ugly opening World Cup win

ENGLAND got their World Cup campaign off the the expectant winning start - but there are undoubtedly things to work on.

But importantly the 35-3 victory against Tonga secured Eddie Jones' men with the all-important bonus point too.

Here Jonny Fordham rates how well the boys in white performed, with Manu Tuilagi leading the way with a star performance.

Elliot Daly 6

Couple of darts in the first-half, but that was about it. Didn't get going when he was switched to the wing either. Should have scored also.

Anthony Watson 6

Brilliant break at the end. Another who was the victim of a couple of Tongan torpedos. Smashed by Leicester Tigers star Sione Kalamafoni and looked like he had been given whiplash.

Manu Tuilagi 8

Back at a World Cup with a bang. Scored two and his second was a thing of beauty in a pretty ugly and boring game

Owen Farrell 7

Kicked 15 points. Still best at fly-half and not as a centre, though and managed to get the last 13 minutes of the match as the No10.

Jonny May 6

Set-up Tuilagi's brilliant second try with an electrifying run. Otherwise pretty quiet.

George Ford 5

Attacking kicking game was good, but couldn't get the attack firing as much as he would have wanted.

Ben Youngs 5

Won his 90th cap to go one behind Jonny Wilkinson's tally. Struggled to get England moving at tempo to run the Tongans off the park.

Joe Marler 6

Won a penalty and held his own in the scrum against giant and lumbering 24 stone tighthead Ben Tameifuna.

Jamie George 6

Trucked over for England's third try on the back of a line out driving maul. Was also 100 per cent at the line out.

Kyle Sinckler 6

Got England forwards with some punchy carries. But should have been used more to take on the Tongans up front.

Courtney Lawes 6

Big lock unleashed some off his trademark big hits and alongside his hooker Jamie George ran the line out with ease.

Maro Itoje  7

Eddie Jones slammed his desk in disgust when he gave away a stupid pen for blocking - but would have been celebrating his line out steals and turnover heroics.

Tom Curry 6

Dropped a few catches and seemed to lack his usual zip around the field. Still topped the tackling charts.

Sam Underhill  5

Won a breakdown penalty to keep scoreboard pressure on. But like his 'Kamikaze Kid' brother, dropped the ball when in the Sea Eagles' danger zone.

Billy Vunipola  5

England's very own Tongan got absolutely smoked by a dubious Zane Kapeli tackle, which had the stadium grimacing and the Sea Eagles bench off their feet and celebrating. Subdued by his usual standards.
