Departing Sky Sports legends Gower and Botham toast their retirements with wine in the commentary box – a day after F-bomb gaffe

DAVID GOWER toasted his final broadcast for Sky Sports by sharing a glass of wine with Ian Botham in the commentary box during the final Ashes Test on Monday.

It was Gower's final day as reporter bringing his two decades as a presenter of Sky's Test coverage to an end.

More than 12 months ago, Gower was told 2019 would be his final year with the broadcaster.

His final appearance had been one to remember after a live mic caught him moaning "haven't got a f***ing clue" during the broadcast.

The 62-year-old proved that even the very best are prone to a slip up on the odd occasion as his final Test drew to an end.

Taking to social media, one fan said: "David Gower still one of the best in the game. Glad to see he's human after all. Can't be that perfect all the time."

Another added: "Unsurprisingly, David Gower drops a big one on his final appearance on Sky Sports! "He hasn't got a ducking clue!"

A third said: "David Gower going out in style."

After the news of his departure was announced last year, Gower hit out at the decision to axe him and Botham, describing it as having "an element of implied ageism".

Earlier, England sealed an Ashes-levelling, pride-salvaging win at The Oval despite Matthew Wade's valiant century.

Joe Root's men had been charging towards a win with the visitors 85-4 when Smith fell for just 23 after Stuart Broad's early wickets spree.

But Wade hit a well-paced century to keep his side in it, before a late flurry of Root-inspired wickets saw England win by 153 runs.
