Tyson Fury vows to KO Otto Wallin and Donald Trump’s wall ahead of Mexican Independence day bout
TYSON FURY is desperate to demolish TWO walls when he fights on Mexican Independence weekend.
The 6ft 9 in heavyweight has even changed his nickname from Gypsy King to El Rey Gitano for his appearance on what has become an iconic weekend for boxing in Las Vegas.
And Fury believes his showdown with Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin could not have come at a better time as he’s hoping to crush him then knock Donald Trump’s controversial wall in too.
He said: “It comes at a great time and isn’t it a great thing that a total outsider from this country is showing so much love, passion and respect for the Mexican people?
“At the minute they are being oppressed by the people here – building a wall, chucking ‘em all out and treating them terrible.
“We have Mexicans on the team, we have our trainer Jorge. He has been with us for the last few camps here.
“We have got a lot of Mexican influence around us here. We show respect to all cultures and religions and all walks of life.
“I’ve got the Mexican shorts, the Mexican gloves, the Mexican mask, the Mexican music, the Mexican flag. I don’t know how much more respect I can show.”
During his campaign to become US President in 2016, Trump vowed to build a wall along the Mexican-American border and ‘make the Mexicans pay for it’.
He has since allocated billions of dollars in order to begin construction along huge sections of the 2000mile border.
Proud traveller Fury said: “Every Mexican person I’ve met has shown love, respect and honour.
“I 100 per cent know what it feels like to be an outsider, I’ve grown up around it, I’ve been brought up around it.
“They’re God fearing people. I don’t know what is going on but it is nice to see a total stranger, heavyweight champion of the world, coming here and respecting people and paying homage to their beliefs and special days.
“This weekend is a very special time, it is when the Mexicans became independent of Spain. It’s an honour to fight on it.”
The date has become an institution on the strip with huge fights for the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya and then Floyd Mayweather always taking place.
Since Mayweather’s retirement Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has picked up the baton but when he moved his next date to later in the year, Fury took full advantage by rearranging his clash with Wallin at the T-Mobile Arena.
He said: “I stepped up for the Mexican people because they were not going to have big boxing on this date for the first time in a long time.
“My next fight was supposed to be in New York in October but I decided to bring it forward and box on a special date.
“After I beat Tom Schwarz in June, this is the second fight back to back and my face is as popular now as David Copperfield’s is on the MGM. It is everywhere.”
