Nigeria want to follow Jamaica by facing England Knights in a match

ENGLAND may face African heat of a different kind – Nigeria want to play them at rugby league.

The Knights side, or an emerging national team, faces Jamaica in a game on Sunday, October 20 after the Caribbean island qualified for the 2021 World Cup.

Now SunSport has been told how the Africans want to follow suit.

Former London Broncos player Ade Adebisi, the man behind getting the 13-a-side code a foothold in the country of 191 million people, said: “One of our aims is to play England Knights.

“We’re trying to grow the game in Nigeria and we already have Super League, Championship and NRL players committed to us.

“We’d be happy to play any of the home nations but a game against the England Knights would cap it.”

Adebisi, who worked for two years in Nigeria without pay to get rugby league established in Nigeria, has landed a TV deal with Yanga! TV after getting the Middle East-Africa Championships there.

And he revealed another NRL ace is ready to commit alongside Nigeria vice-captain and Canterbury Bulldogs’ Jayden Okunbor and a number of top flight players here.

He added: “St George-Illawarra’s Jason Saab is also on board with us while there’s also Castleford’s Tuoyo Egodo, London’s Sadiq Adebiyi and Leeds’ Muizz Mustapha plus many others who qualify.

“Players see this as another Jamaica story in the making.”
