WWE legend ‘The Rock’ Dwayne Johnson officially retires from wrestling
FINALLY, The Rock has… RETIRED!
It’s the news WWE fans have been dreading – Dwayne Johnson has officially hung up his boots and called time on his illustrious in-ring career.
The Great One, 47, became one of the most recognisable faces on the planet during the WWE Attitude Era days in the 1990s and continued to dominate into the 2000s.
Now the trailblazing, eyebrow raising superstar is one of the biggest actors in Hollywood.
And it was while promoting his latest movie Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw on Live with Kelly and Ryan that he announced the huge bombshell.
The People’s Champion said: “I miss wrestling, I love wrestling.
“Yes, I do…I quietly retired from wrestling because I was lucky enough to have just a really wonderful career and accomplish what I wanted to accomplish, but there’s nothing like a live crowd, a live audience, a live microphone as you both know.”
The Rock left WWE 15 years ago to embark on his silverscreen career but has returned to the squared-circle on several occasions since, most notably for two WrestleMania showdowns with John Cena in 2012 and 2013.
But in typical Rock fashion, despite his subdued exit, he has left by making yet more history.
SIX SECOND VICTORY
His final ever fight was against Erick Rowan at WretleMania 32, and the future Hall of Famer took just six seconds to claim the victory.
That made it the shortest match ever in ‘Mania history.
The eight-time WWE champion did not rule out future appearances for Vince McMahon’s company, but his days of “Laying the Smack Down” are now sadly over.
It is also believed that WWE are attempting to get The Rock to appear on the first Fox episode of SmackDown Live on October 4.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is out now at cinemas while he will also star in the Jumanji sequel that premieres in December.
The Rock is not only wrestler-turned-actor to announce their retirement from the ring this year.
Dave Bautista, who performed as Batista, revealed after his WrestleMania defeat to Triple H in April he was also done.
The 50-year-old is forging an impressive career for himself in the movie business and has starred in hits such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers and Blade Runner 2049.
