Conor McGregor will return to UFC ‘at the beginning of next year’ says Dana White

McGregor, 30, then announced his retirement in late March, but has constantly hinted on social media that he is not done in the cage just yet.

And now UFC supremo White has revealed he expects the Dublin hardman to return to the Octagon in 2020.

Speaking on the Rich Eisen show in the US, White said: “I think McGregor is gonna come back at the beginning of next year.

"So, realistically, all these guys are looking at September to see what happens with Khabib and [Dustin] Poirier.

“After that fight plays out, I think there’s gonna be a lot of movement going on.”

McGREGOR'S LEGACY

It is the second time McGregor has 'retired' from UFC leading many to speculate that it will be a short-lived spell out of the fighting game.

McGregor’s comeback has been temporarily delayed through a hand injury that needed surgery.

This is believed to have led to bouts with Justin Gaethje and Anthony Pettis falling through - with Nate Diaz returning to face the latter at UFC 241 in August.

SunSport reported how his coach John Kavanagh believes The Notorious could be close to making a UFC return too.

He told : "I think what has come back around is the love of the sport. He loves doing it, he loves training [and] he loves competing.

"And legacy, that he’s remembered being one of the best, if not the best ever.

“So that’s what’s really come back into him since the beginning of the year. That’s what I wanted to see.

“Because he’s obviously a very well-known student of mine, but he’s also somewhat like a kid brother.

“You wouldn’t want to see him doing something just for the sake of doing it and maybe getting hurt or whatever because he’s not fully there. But now he absolutely is.”
