DOUBLE TROUBLE

Nick Kyrgios rejects chance to play doubles with Andy Murray at Wimbledon as he ‘didn’t want to carry him’

NICK KYRGIOS will not play men’s doubles with Andy Murray at Wimbledon.

And the Australian stands by his criticism of Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal, saying: “My opinion of them has not changed.”

Nick Kyrgios will not play doubles with Andy Murray at Wimbledon because he does not want ‘to carry him’

The outspoken Aussie, 24, is close mates with Murray and the pair often enjoy going on rollercoaster rides together.

There had been speculation Kyrgios would partner up with Murray at SW19 this summer because the Scot is searching for one.

The pair discussed it in recent weeks but Kyrgios said: “It’s just good to see him back, but I don’t think I want to carry him for Wimbledon doubles.

“I think he can find someone else to do that for him.

“When I hit with him a couple weeks ago, we spoke about it. But singles is the best-of-five sets, which is tough.

“I don’t know if my body – if I happen to go deep at Wimbledon – it’s too tough to play doubles, as well.”

Murray is set to play doubles with Spaniard Feliciano Lopez at Queen’s on Wednesday against Colombian top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in his first match back since a hip resurfacing op in January.

‘MURRAY’S UNBELIEVABLE – A WARRIOR’

Kyrgios said: “It’s great to see him back. Results don’t matter.

“Just to see him back healthy and seeing him happy on court is all that matters.

“He is unbelievable. He’s a warrior. He’s good enough to do damage in any doubles of any players, especially this week with Feliciano. I’d almost pay to watch that match.

“He’s a legend. I mean I don’t want to keep answering questions because it’s like I love the guy or something!”

Kyrgios is no strange to controversy and violent outbursts on court, having been disqualified from the Italian Open in Rome last month for throwing a CHAIR.

The world No 39 is not afraid to speak his mind, branding French Open champion Nadal as “super salty” and a sore loser.

He even reckons world No 1 Djokovic is “cringe-worthy” for his “sick obsession with wanting to be being liked”.

Kyrgios takes on Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the first round of the Fever-Tree Championships on Tuesday, and he stood by his comments.

He added: “My opinions won’t change. When we go out there, we battle.

“In society today, when someone is being honest, it causes a bit of a stir. I just say what I think and I just go about it the way I go about it.

“They are motivated to beat me in general. They want to beat me regardless.”
