Lionel Messi wins FIRST international ‘trophy’ for beating team ranked 129 in world… as Cristiano Ronaldo lifts Nations League

LIONEL MESSI has FINALLY won an international trophy - but it doesn't really count.

At the weekend the man regarded by many as the greatest of all time got his hands on the Copa San Juan.

This was the trophy up for grabs for the winners of the Argentina versus Nicaragua game - Messi scored twice as the La Albiceleste triumphed 5-1.

The result was hardly a shock - Nicaragua are ranked 129th in the world - below the likes of Chinese Taipea, Kosovo and Malawi.

Meanwhile over in Portugal his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo was winning another trophy - and one that counts officially.

Goncalo Guedes' 60th-minute goal ensured Portugal won the Nations League with a 1-0 victory against Holland in the final.

RONNY GETS A REAL  ONE

It meant Ronaldo got his hands on his second international trophy in three years following the Euro 2016 triumph in France.

It takes the Juventus forward's collection to 29 over his stunning career, including six league titles, five European Cups and the European Championship.

And that haul is excluding the top-scorer prizes he has won over the years - including one for the Nations League finals.

His hat-trick in the semi-final against Switzerland was enough to make him outright top scorer. Portugal team-mate Guedes picked up the Silver trophy with one goal and an assist, ahead of England’s Marcus Rashford, who also scored one goal.

He also made the team of tournament, partnered in attack by former Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay.
