SPOILT FOR CHOICE

WWE vs AEW to go head-to-head for first time with shows on August 31

THE competition brewing in the wrestling world is set to reach a climax this summer as WWE and the new All Elite Wrestling schedule shows for the same night.

Wrestling fans are spoilt for choice in this new era since the launch of AEW but on August 31 they will have a decision to make.

Do they stick with established titan WWE, for so long the global leader in wrestling entertainment?

Or do they switch allegiances to the new AEW, which has just landed free agent Jon Moxley - best remembered in WWE as Dean Ambrose?

AEW’s TV deals with ITV in the UK and Turner Broadcasting in the US get underway in October, around the same time WWE’s SmackDown Live moves to Fox.

But the clash in the two organisations’ schedules will come before then on August 31.

AEW announced during its last show - Double or Nothing - that its All Out event would take place on the final day of August in Chicago this year.

That puts it in competition with WWE’s NXT UK TakeOver event in Cardiff, with WWE icon Triple H telling the world to “follow that” during the show’s announcement.

That has been interpreted as a message to wrestling fans to shun AEW and stick with the behemoth that is WWE.

But after so many years of WWE domination of the wrestling world, a dose of competition is likely to improve the experience for fans.
