KYLE EDMUND will return to Court No1 tomorrow after his five-set thriller with Jeremy Chardy was stopped in the Paris gloom.
The British No1 and Frenchman Chardy were unable to beat the dying light at Roland Garros with their French Open first-round clash suspended at 9.23pm local time with the score 5-5 in the final set.
The pair had being gone hammer-and-tongs for almost four hours but a decision was taken by tournament officials to stop play – much to the annoyance of the booing home crowd.
They will be scheduled second on Court No1 on the next available day though the forecast for the French capital is for showers.
Edmund, 24, has had a terrible time on clay this season, suffering five successive defeats before arriving in Paris for the second Grand Slam of the year.
But after a tight first set, Edmund flew through the tie-break to win it 7-1.
The Frenchman, cheered on by his home crowd, bounced back to claim the second set before Edmund regained the lead by taking the third.
Chardy refused to be beaten, though, and took the match into a fifth and final set as the clock continued to tick and darkness fell.
Although many inside the stadium felt there was still enough light to carry on, the unpopular decision was made to bring them off.

Edmund will resume with the serve, hoping he can see out the remaining games and continue his record of having never lost in the first round here.
But the pair could be in for plenty more action, though, because the French Open is the only Grand Slam which does not have a tie-break in the final set.
The winner of this match will play Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas in the second round.
