Ric Flair’s wife insists WWE legend should make full recovery after being rushed to hospital

Fears mounted yesterday for the Hall of Famer after reports claimed he was hospitalised due to a 'very serious' unspecified emergency

RIC FLAIR’S wife says the WWE legend is expected to make a full recovery after being rushed to hospital on Thursday.

The Nature Boy, 70, is undergoing a medical procedure this morning in Atlanta.

Fears mounted yesterday as TMZ reported he was hospitalised due to a “very serious” unspecified emergency.

His son-in-law Conrad Thompson later played told that the procedure was planned and the situation “is not as grave or serious” as earlier reports claimed.

Now Flair’s partner Wendy Barlow, his fifth wife, has given further insight into the 16-time world champion’s condition.

The 59-year-old told : “Due to ongoing health complications, Ric was taken to the hospital and is expected to undergo a procedure tomorrow morning, after which he expects to fully recover.”

Thompson, married to Flair’s daughter Megan, added: “This was not a last-minute surprise surgery, in good spirits.”

Flair is one of the headline names due to attend wrestling convention Starrcast II later this month.

And Thompson assured fans Naitch would still be “Styling and Profiling” at the bash on May 25.

He explained: “He could choose to have it done now or after Vegas and decided to go ahead and have it done now because he thought he'd be feeling good and wanted to get this done beforehand.”

Flair narrowly escaped death in 2017 after his intestine ruptured and he was placed in a coma for 11 days but recovered after having an obstructed piece of bowel surgically removed.

He married long-time partner Barlow the following year in a lavish bash attended by sporting, wrestling and Hollywood stars.

He revealed in his book “Ric Flair: To Be the Man” that he suffers from alcoholic cardiomyopathy – a heart problem caused by prolonged alcohol abuse.

Flair told Sports Illustrated in 2017: “I had one vice. I'm not going to point my finger at anybody else. My vice was drinking.

“I didn't have any pain issues, addiction problems, marijuana, cocaine, nothing like that. It's a fact that I kept myself up all night and always had a good time.”

Flair, who survived a plane crash in his early years, began wrestling way back in 1972 and soon became one of the most iconic faces in the business.

He holds the joint-record with John Cena for the most world championship reigns and retired in 2008 at WrestleMania after losing to Shawn Michaels.

The American still makes appearances to this day and just last month he returned to ‘Mania to be at ringside in Triple H’s win over Batista.

His other daughter Charlotte is forging a superb career for herself in the ring, already winning championship gold on nine occasions.
