PREMIER LEAGUE referee Mike Dean went crazy after watching Tranmere Rovers reach the League Two play-off final.

Tranmere fan Dean was in the away end as Rovers drew 1-1 at Forest Green Rovers, ensuring safe passage on aggregate after winning the first leg 1-0.

The whistle-blower, who recently became the first ref to show 100 red cards in the Premier League, was caught on Sky Sports cameras cheering and chanting during the game.

And at full-time “celebrity ref” Dean couldn’t contain his delight at seeing Micky Mellon’s side reach Wembley, as he jumped on top of the rail.

And his actions went down a treat on social media.

Matthew Sowerby posted on Twitter: “Mike Dean is legendary. Just be thankful you’re on earth at the same time as him.”

Ben Nash described it as “top draw”, and Dean Allum wrote: “Referee Mike Dean in with the Tranmere supporters tonight at Forest Green and caught on camera singing, brilliant.”

Others described him as “a lad”, a “national treasure” and a “proper boyo”.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg at Prenton Park on Friday, Tranmere were pegged back on aggregate at The New Lawn when Joseph Mills headed home in the 12th minute.

But former Forest Green striker James Norwood volleyed what proved to be the all-important equaliser on the night, and winner overall, 15 minutes later.

It was his 32nd goal of the season.

And then an incident which would have delighted Dean – midway through the second half Forest Green’s Carl Winchester was sent off for two bookable offences.

It means the teams that finished sixth and seventh in League Two have made the final at the expense of the teams that finished fourth and fifth.
