Felipe Massa opened visor for visibility in ‘scary’ Paris ePrix despite horror F1 crash
Brazilian's helmet malfunctioned after water leaked inside his visor
FELIPE MASSA suffered a nightmare scenario in the Paris ePrix after water leaked inside his helmet.
The Brazilian could not see during the race and had to race with an open visor for visibility in the rain.
During his F1 days Massa suffered a terrifying accident when a spring penetrated his visor at 175mph, knocking him unconscious and fracturing his skull.
But the former Ferrari star was not scared by the prospect of a similar incident reoccurring when opening his visor but was instead frightened at his lack of visibility.
He said: "Not scary for that reason (previous incident reoccurring), because I trust the helmet is safe and strong anyway.
'SCARY SITUATION'
"Helmets became a lot stronger after my accident.
"But it was scary you were going to crash because you could not see.
"It was a big problem in my race because I couldn't see anything, even when I spun and my pace was down, this was because of my visibility.
"That was definitely a scary situation."
Massa says the helmet malfunction played a huge part in his race as he aquaplaned out of third before being shunted off by Brit Oliver Turvey as he finished 9th.
Following the race Massa sent his helmet back to the suppliers for them to investigate the problem but he is still seeking answers.
The 38-year-old said: "We sent the helmet to them, they checked it, if they understood the problem m or not, I don't know.
