Oleksandr Usyk OUT of his heavyweight debut against Takam with bicep injury
The Ukrainian was meant to be making his debut at the weight, moving up from cruiserweight
OLEKSANDR USYK has been forced to pull out of his anticipated heavyweight showdown after suffering an injury.
The pound-for-pound superstar was due to face Carlos Takam in Maryland, US, on May 25.
The Ukrainian was meant to be making his debut at the weight, moving up from cruiser.
But he has suffered a bicep problem in training, and the bout will now be delayed to a future date.
His promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the devastating news tonight on his Twitter account.
He said: "Due to a bicep injury, @usykaa has been forced to postpone his heavyweight debut against Carlos Takam, scheduled for May 25.
"An announcement regarding our Maryland show will be made shortly. #UsykTakam @DAZN_USA"
Usyk is the former undisputed cruiserweight champion after a stellar professional career.
He also won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics, and retired Tony Bellew in 2018 after knocking the Brit out.
