Shambolic Arsenal star Granit Xhaka has given away more penalties than any other player in Prem since £38m transfer
CLUMSY Granit Xhaka has conceded more penalties with a single club than any other player since signing for Arsenal.
The midfielder gave away his fourth spot-kick against Brighton on Sunday as the Gunners were forced to settle with a disappointing point.
It proved costly as it meant Arsenal have missed out on a top-four finish for the third successive year.
Xhaka joined the Gunners for £38million in the summer of 2016 and has produced a mixed bag of performances.
Although he scores the odd wonder goal, he is also prone to a piece of mindless defending in the box.
In October earlier in the season, he was guilty of hacking down Wilfried Zaha late in the game at Crystal Palace.
Arsenal were 2-1 ahead at the time before Luka Milivojevic's equaliser that ended a 10-game winning streak.
In January 2017, Arsene Wenger warned him to concede fewer penalties after bundling over Ryan Fraser in a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.
Most penalties conceded since May 2016
Jose Fonte (Swansea & West Ham) - 5
Granit Xhaka (Arsenal) - 4
Federico Fernandez (Swansea & Newcastle) - 4
That was a just a month after he elbowed Stoke's Joe Allen in the box in a 3-1 win - his first spot-kick given away in an Arsenal shirt.
But his record of four can be topped by Jose Fonte.
The Portugal defender conceded five with two clubs - Southampton and West Ham - while former Swansea and Newcastle defender Federico Fernandez has also given away four.
Arsenal fans appear to be losing patience with Xhaka following his latest error.
One said: "I’ll rather have a one leg Ramsey than Xhaka."
Another claimed: "Granit Xhaka has to be the most senseless footballer on earth...too clumsy...no brain whatsoever."
