Sam Bird says Formula E is more competitive than ever with TEN drivers fighting for title

SAM BIRD says Formula E has never been more competitive after being involved in the series from day one.

The Brit is among ten drivers who are fighting for the title this season after seeing seven different winners from seven races.

Bird is one of the drivers to have won a race after crossing the line first in Santiago, Chile.

Bird said: "Last year was already competitive but this year it has taken a notch up - the driver line up has improved, there's no weakness, it's pretty amazing.

"It is exciting, last year it was only me and Jean-Eric Vergne who could win the title, this year there can be eight drivers who could win the title in the final race."

The top ten in the drivers standings is separated by just 21 points points - four points less than the amount on offer for a race win.

LOOKING FOR LUCK

But the Virgin driver has scored zero points in his last two races since his controversial crash with Andre Lotterer in Hong Kong.

Bird added: "Something good has got to happen soon.

"Obviously in Hong Kong we were the quickest with the best energy, we didn't win but we crossed the line first.

"And then the last two we have been hit from the back twice and it can happen in Formula E, so after two bad ones, let's hope for a good one.

"I would be more concerned if we had dropped 40 points behind the leader but 10 or 11, it's okay, it's not such a drama right now."

Bird will hope to be in the points again in the Paris ePrix on Saturday as he trails seven rivals in the drivers' standings.
