HULL KR star Joe Wardill has been forced to retire aged just 21 after a series of horror hip injuries.
The centre – who also played in the back row – has failed to fully recover after three years of problems.
He had endured a number of operations and the Super League side were happy for him to continue, but he has called it a day.
Wardill said: “I've had surgery on my right hip three times in the last two-and-a-half years.
“It was my own decision to call it a day. It wasn’t to be.
“The club were fantastic in giving me a three-year deal to try and get myself fit again.”
Wardill will now take up a role at the club as assistant coach of their new women’s team.
He came through the academy at Hull KR after joining them as a young kid.
The promising talent made his debut in 2016 against Wigan Warriors, but played just 16 times since.
