Fleetwood Town F.C. manager Joey Barton takes mind off tunnel bust-up with rival boss by posing with eco protesters

FOOTIE bad boy Joey Barton tried to show his soft side yesterday by joining the dwindling band of climate protesters in London.

The Fleetwood Town manager, 36 — in trouble over a tunnel bust-up with a rival boss earlier this month — posted a snap.

It came as Elliott Cuciurean, 20, became the first activist successfully prosecuted over the protests. He was let off paying a £1,000 fine, despite the protests costing London at least £12 million.

Yesterday, some hardy eco-warriors lay in hammocks in trees above statues of Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, where they were hailed as "heroes"; when activists danced in from Marble Arch.

But crowds were noticeably thinner than last week, caused by end of the Easter break and the threat of wet weather.

The Met have arrested 1,065, with 71 charged.

Inside Parliament, the influential 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg met with party leaders and told MPs her future has been "stolen".

The schoolgirl spoke alongside a panel of MPs, including Environment Secretary Michael Gove, Green MP Caroline Lucas, former Labour leader Ed Miliband and Lib Dem MP Layla Moran.

She said: "The basic problem is the same everywhere and the basic problem is that nothing is being done.

"You don't listen to the science because you are only interested in the answers that will allow you to carry on as if nothing has happened."

Environment Secretary Michael Gove said: "Suddenly in the past few years it has become inescapable that we have to act.

"The time to act is now, the challenge could not be clearer - Greta you have been heard."
