Khan’s problem ahead of fight against ‘special’ Crawford is his dodgy defence, says Frank Warren
Amir Khan is a big outsider to beat undefeated American Crawford in their New York scrap
AMIR KHAN will lose against Terence Crawford because of his poor defence, according to legendary promoter Frank Warren.
In the early hours of the morning, the former two-weight world champ will challenge the undefeated American at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Khan heads into the WBO welterweight world title fight as a huge underdog – and rightly so according to Warren.
Writing in his column for the , the promoter said: “Khan’s got one problem and that’s his defence, that’s really it.
“Unfortunately, he’s in with the best American fighter out there. You can’t knock his heart, Amir Khan fears no one.
“The more I look at it, the more I feel Khan will struggle and I just can’t see him winning.
I believe even a peak Khan wouldn’t be able to beat Crawford
Promoter Frank Warren
“I’ve been following Crawford a long time and he’s a brilliant, once in generation fighter.
“There’s no doubting Khan’s heart, he’s always been game. His fighting spirit, in my opinion, has always been his greatest strength, and his greatest weakness.
“He’s got fast hands and reflexes, but I believe even a peak Khan wouldn’t be able to beat Crawford.”
Crawford has won all 34 of his fights, securing 25 KO’s along the way.
He is regarded as one of, if not the, best pound-for-pound boxers in the business.
And Warren believes boxing fans are blessed to be able to watch the 31-year-old do his his thing in the ring.
He added: “Crawford is just one of those special fighters, he will stand out as the best of his generation.
“We’re blessed to have Crawford and Vasyl Lomachenko in the same era.”
