Billy Joe Saunders calls out Chris Eubank Jr for rematch at super-middleweight after James DeGale win
The 29-year-old claimed the vacant IBO super-middleweight belt after putting in a career-best performance
CHRIS EUBANK JR has been called out by British rival Billy Joe Saunders following his impressive win against two-time world champion James DeGale.
Next Gen dropped the 2008 Olympic gold medallist twice en route to a unanimous decision at the 02 Arena to get his career back on track, and all-but retire Chunky.
The 29-year-old claimed the vacant IBO super-middleweight belt after putting in a career-best performance.
And his dazzling display caught the eye of former WBO middleweight champ Saunders, who is looking to challenge the Brighton-based boxer once again.
Eubank Jr suffered the first defeat of his professional career at the hands of the southpaw in 2014, as he lost a split decison with the British, Commonwealth and European titles on the line.
Taking to social media immediately after the fight last night, Saunders tweeted: "I would love to play a game of boxing with Chris Eubank Jr."
He said: "He’s a drug cheat, so I’m not looking at him first and foremost. I don’t think he deserves it.
“There are other great names out there, in the middleweight division also.
"There is nobody that I wouldn’t fight, I’m here to collect the belts and become world champion in either division. So whatever is put in front of me, I’m going to take.”
However in his post-fight press conference, Eubank Jr stated he is open for a rematch with Saunders in the nearby future.
He told reporters: "Absolutely, we’ve got a lot of history. He has been caught doing drugs , I can’t condone that.
“I look at that and think does he deserve it?
“But the rivalry we have, it’s tough not to want that fight. I’d be open to."
