Formula E: Felipe Massa furiously compares rival Maximilian Gunther to a F3 driver
Brazilian expressed his anger towards the German after he retired from the Santiago E-Prix
FELIPE MASSA furiously likened his rival Maximilian Gunther to a Formula 3 driver after the Santiago E-Prix.
The Brazilian was forced to retire from Formula E’s street race in Chile’s capital and accused Maximilian Gunther of shunting him into the wall and cutting the chicane in the opening stages of the race.
The ex-F1 star’s race ended after Gunther put him into the wall on the entry to a corner, which then led to Oliver Rowland also cutting him up on the exit.
Massa said: “I am really angry because in the first laps of the race, Gunther cut the chicane and the rule is, if you cut the chicane you should stop the car.
“He doesn’t even break, he doesn’t even slow down, he carried on in the same position.
“And then he is doing this typical formula 3 driver thing at the end, pushing the car into the wall on the breaking for me is really disappointing.”
He added: “It’s positive that things were going better and we were able maybe today to score points with both cars.
“Unfortunately it was not possible because even if it looked like Oliver Rowland pushed in the wall.
“But before, Gunther pushed me into the wall. I was on the left, he was on the right and just on breaking he pushed me completely in the wall.
“And then Rowland has the space to put it on the inside and I crash again on the exit, but the problem was before.”
Massa was determined to put in a good performance for the his adoring fans in South America, which felt like a home Grand Prix.
He said: “I am upset because I was really feeling the love of the people here, like a home Grand Prix.
“It’s really fantastic to feel that, I was trying to do the best I could for a good result today, which was possible.
“But unfortunately I couldn’t finish the race, but it’s a great country and a great city and the people love racing and also support me a lot, so it’s a great feeling.”
