Formula E: Brit Sam Bird wins Santiago E-Prix after SEVEN collisions in chaotic race

BRIT Sam Bird won a chaotic Santiago E-Prix as there were SEVEN separate collisions in the streets of Chile.

Ex-F1 stars Felipe Massa, Stoffel Vandoorne, Jean-Eric Vergne and Sebastien Buemi all retired from the pulsating race.

Pascal Werhlein finished second after pushing Bird in the closing stages on what was the joint hottest day in Santiago ever, with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees.

Bird gave Werhlein a little bump before overtaking his rival for second place in the opening half of the race.

The Virgin driver then capitalised to take the lead when Buemi crashed into the barriers which was the end of his afternoon.

Vandoorne was chasing the leading pack before he hit the wall head on, losing the whole of his front wing which led to his retirement from the race.

While Vergne returned his car to the garage after he spun out during the second half of the race.

Massa also withdrew from the race after he was squeezed into the barriers by Maximilian Gunther and then by Oliver Rowland.

While Lucas Di Grassi also got involved in the carnage after he went straight into the back of Jose Maria Lopez.

Di Grassi secured pole position but he was sent to the back of the grid within an hour of the race for breaking a qualifying infringement.

While Edoardo Mortara also span during the race after contact with Alexander Sims.
