Formula E: Lucas Di Grassi snatches pole position in Santiago from ex-F1 stars Pascal Wehrlein and Stoffel Vandoorne

Audi driver was fastest in qualifying as he edged two new rookies from F1 ahead of the E-Prix

LUCAS DI GRASSI'S hot lap landed him pole position for the Santiago E-Prix.

The Audi star was in a shoot-out for the top six places in super pole alongside ex-F1 stars Stoffel Vandoorne and Pascal Wehrlein.

Vandoorne will start the race in fifth place for HWA while Wehrlein will be on the second row in third.

Sebastian Buemi fought his way to second on the grid alongside the pole sitter, while Brit Sam Bird will start sixth.

Elsewhere Felipe Massa's car is showing much more pace as he starts tenth after a disappointing start to his Formula E career.

Defending champion Jean-Eric Vergne has his work cut out as he starts in 13th.

The Frenchman fell victim of the track speeding up as the session went on as he competed in the first qualifying session.

So much so that all of the drivers in the second group, out performed those in the first.

The winner last time out in Marrakesh, Jerome D'Ambrosio, starts at the back of the grid after he also struggled in the first session.
