REAL MADRID manager Santiago Solari made the bold move to drop club legend Marcelo for being 'a STONE overweight'.
The veteran defender, 30, has recently been linked with a move to Juventus that would reunite him with former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
22-year-old Sergio Reguilón was Solari's preferred option at full-back as late goals from Casemiro and Luka Modric saw Madrid beat Sevilla.
According to Spanish journalist Juan Ramón de la Morena, speaking on , Marcelo was benched for being overweight.
Morena reported that the club legend was more than a stone above his specified weight target, as determined by Madrid doctors.
Marcelo has been plagued by injury problems this season which has restricted him to just seven league starts and he's been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.
However Marcelo - who has spent eight years in Madrid - claimed he will never try and force a move away from the Spanish giants.
Speaking to , he said: “It's never entered my mind to leave and look for another option.
“I have always done everything possible to stay at Real Madrid and I've never thought about playing time.
“If I had 15 minutes in every game, I'd give everything in those 15 minutes to play more and win more.”
